Conference Like You’ve Never Seen!

We are now a month away from opening our virtual doors and welcoming the world to the 45th Annual Western Roundup Living Sober Conference!!!

This year continues to be challenging on so many levels.  As the pandemic continues we are also faced with political turmoil and civil unrest across our country and the world.  Through all of this, I have been reminded time and time again that I am not in charge.  Like so many, I have been met with hardships, insecurity and anxiety about what the future holds.

I was so disappointed when we made the difficult but right decision to host this year’s Conference virtually.  I had visions of welcoming our fellowship back to our host hotel in San Francisco – lots of hugs, laughs, tears, and that satisfying exhaustion at the end of the day from running around from event to event.  When we made the decision to go virtual, an ad hoc Exploratory Committee was formed to find solutions that would allow us to still deliver as much of the Conference experience that our fellows have come to expect from us over the years.  Our Exploratory Committee partnered with our Program Committee who had already created exciting workshops, and events, and together they were able to decide upon a platform that would let us put on an interactive and dynamic virtual Conference.

While we may not be able to share physical hugs, or bump into each other in the halls between meetings, you will still be able to attend engaging workshops, listen to inspirational speakers, and have some fun with the fellowship!  You can even join us in style by shopping for our 2020 Commemoratives and having them shipped directly to your house (Order soon and you’ll get them before Conference!).

I am extremely excited that we will once again put on The Great Gathering – People of Color Event, Transgender Event: Tea-Party Reception, and Marty Mann Women’s Celebration Luncheon.

Another big decision we made, that was not difficult at all, was to offer Conference Registration completely free of charge.  While we never turn anyone away for lack of funds, it was important to us to open this year’s conference to everyone without any pressure to pay.  Our General Fund and Co-Sponsored Funds are still open for donations if you would like to show your continued support for WRLS, and we appreciate the generosity of our donors.

Registration is now available through our website at livingsober.org and though free will be needed to access our Conference App which will have our agenda, and meeting codes for access.  I encourage you to register early so you can look through our agenda and customize your schedule.  With this virtual platform, there are no geographic limits, so we hope you’ll invite your friends, sponsees, and newcomers to join us as well.

A Conference planning year that started in disappointment and frustration has turned into excitement and hope.  The credit goes to our amazing General Planning Committee and Steering Committee, with the support of our Advisory Board, for their tenacity, creativity, and drive.   I promise you’re going to love what you see!  We also wouldn’t be doing what we’re doing with the ongoing support and love from our incredible community of fellows.

We love and appreciate you, and wish you continued health, happiness and sobriety.

Until Conference, take care, and we’ll see you real soon!!!
